First 30 days checklist
Only the license deadline is firmly dated. The rest are prompts to look up, not facts.

License
- You have 30 days after becoming a resident to exchange an out-of-state license. The DMV says 90 days of living in New York counts as presumptive evidence of residency.
- The license needs a photo, must be valid or expired under 24 months, and must have been issued at least 6 months before you apply. Secondary guides say most eligible drivers skip the tests, but confirm with the DMV.
- You surrender the old license. Students are generally not treated as residents.
