How to get a fab job in Phoenix

Short training routes exist here already. Check current dates before you plan around them.

1. Semiconductor Technician Quick Start

A 10-day in-person certification offered at Chandler-Gilbert, Estrella Mountain and Mesa community colleges, developed with employers including Intel. Coverage from 2022 to 2024 says eligible Arizona residents could take it free, with a $270 stipend covering Maricopa County tuition, and that more than 900 people had trained with thousands waiting for seats.

2. Go straight to the employers

TSMC Arizona and Intel list technician and engineer roles on their own careers sites. A 2023 Fortune report said TSMC needed to hire about 4,500 Americans for its Arizona plants, and a 2025 Axios report described a wide hiring push from high school graduates to experienced engineers.

3. Know the culture

A Taiwan-to-Phoenix relocation guide from a local brokerage describes TSMC Arizona as more intense than typical US tech but less intense than TSMC Taiwan. That comes from one niche guide, not from TSMC.

4. Current Quick Start dates and cost

The Maricopa Community Colleges describe Quick Start as 10 days, 4 hours a day, in person. A $306 tuition stipend fully covers Arizona resident tuition (including the $15 registration fee) and partly covers non-resident tuition. It is paid after you complete the class and pass both the written exam and the hands-on lab of the NIMS technician test. Mesa Community College lists November 9 to 20 (year not shown), March 22 to April 2, 2027 and April 5 to 16, 2027, Monday to Friday, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Chandler-Gilbert and Glendale post spring 2027 classes later, Estrella Mountain has none until spring 2027, and a waitlist covers extra classes. This replaces the older $270 stipend figure in 2022 to 2024 coverage.

Not confirmed: how many people have completed the course and how long the waitlist is. The program page does not say.
