The 3,700 figure comes from the earliest, most reputable source.

Who is building
  • A 2024-era Idaho Statesman piece reported 500 construction workers on site rising to 3,700 at peak, with recruiting from neighboring states. It is the most defensible figure.
  • Later, less authoritative sources say 4,000 or more, and about 6,000 under a Yates and Layton joint venture.
  • The sources even disagree on who leads construction: Exyte in 2024, Hoffman in a late-2025 report, and Yates and Layton on a construction-data site.
  • Hardest trades to hire: electricians, mechanical and cleanroom trades, pipefitters and controls technicians. Some insiders worry the fab could monopolize the region’s trade workers.
  • Peak construction is generally placed around 2026, with ID1 first wafer output targeted for mid-2027.
What it means

Fab construction pulls in electricians, pipefitters, millwrights, welders and laborers. Counts below move fast and come from mixed sources, so read them as a picture of scale, not a headcount.

Not covered: official Micron or Idaho Department of Labor counts, which would settle the peak.
