Where Intel Ohio One stands
This is the slowest of the five projects, and it depends on customer demand.
- Original plan. Production was to start in 2025. A 2024 filing moved it to 2027 to 2028.
- February 2025. Intel said construction on the first factory would finish in 2030, with operations between 2030 and 2031. The second factory would finish in 2031, with operations in 2032.
- August 2026. WOSU reported that work is slower but steady, with about a dozen large cranes on site. Intel says its deadlines stay flexible with customer demand, and the first of two fabs is still on track for 2031. Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb said that, as far as he knows, Intel has not yet ordered the specialized chipmaking equipment, which has a two-year lead time, and that who will make chips there “has not been answered yet.” Reports of an SK hynix deal remain unconfirmed.
- October 2026. TrendForce reports workers installed the first major structural truss for fab 1, and that Intel’s CEO said projects like Ohio One go ahead only with enough customer demand. CNBC reportedly says Intel is in talks with SK hynix about leasing part of the site for memory. Neither company has confirmed that.
- Hiring. Intel said it already hired Ohioans who are training at its fabs in Arizona, New Mexico and Oregon.
Reporting says the state’s incentive terms let Intel keep its money if the plants employ at least 3,000 workers by the end of 2028. That date may be affected by the later schedule, so check current terms.
